The British Council and Creative Scotland supported a delegation visit to Istanbul from 2–6 March 2026, bringing together seven Scottish creative sector leaders alongside representatives from both organisations.

Building on the legacy of the Momentum Focus Country Türkiye programme , the visit aimed to deepen connections between Scotland and Türkiye’s creative sectors, foster mutual learning, and identify opportunities for future collaboration.

During the programme, delegates visited a wide range of cultural institutions across Istanbul, including public arts institutions,  universities, residency programmes, and private and independent art spaces. The delegation also took part in one-to-one conversations with local creatives, focused gatherings dedicated to the independent theatre scene and contemporary dance.

The visit also included a special screening programme, ‘They Also Serve: Scottish Women Documentary Makers 1935–Present’,  designed by Beykoz Kundura and  co-curated by the Invisible Women Collective and the Scottish Documentary Institute. The screening was preceded by a conversation with the curators on the visibility of women in documentary cinema history, marking International Women’s Day by remembering the pioneering women of cinema history. The event ended with a live DJ performance by Ladies On Records, bringing visibility to women musicians active during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
