II. English Language Teachers’ Conference: Innovation and Technology in English Language Education
The British Council in Türkiye, the Directorate General for Innovation and Educational Technologies (YEĞİTEK) of the Ministry of National Education, and the Sabancı Foundation jointly hosted the II. English Language Teachers’ Conference: Innovation and Technology in English Language Education on 23–24 September 2026 in Bursa.
Following the first conference in Adana in 2025, the second conference brought together more than 300 teachers and education professionals from 73 provinces across Türkiye for two days of learning, sharing and collaboration.
About the conference
The conference explored how innovation, educational technology and artificial intelligence (AI) were shaping English language education and classroom practice. It provided a platform for teachers, education professionals and sector stakeholders to share experiences, explore innovative approaches and discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by AI and new technologies.
Across the two days, education and sector experts from the UK and Türkiye delivered a series of thematic workshops, offering participants opportunities to engage with current practices, exchange ideas and explore practical approaches that could be adapted to their own educational contexts.
The conference also featured 36 teacher-led presentations, giving teachers from across Türkiye an opportunity to share innovative practices and approaches they had developed and experienced in their own classrooms. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including AI-supported learning, digital tools, assessment, creativity, inclusion, global citizenship and sustainability.
The programme also featured plenary sessions exploring the role of AI in English language education, the human side of learning in the age of AI, sustainable education, and the changing roles and identities of teachers.
Exhibition Area
Alongside the conference sessions, participants visited an Exhibition Area featuring British Council TeachingEnglish resources, Ministry of National Education projects and initiatives, and resources from UK publishers.
The exhibition provided an opportunity for participants to discover educational resources, explore approaches to AI and English language education, and learn about professional development opportunities.
Innovative Classroom
Another highlight of the conference was an Innovative Classroom, established in collaboration with the Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education.
Designed to demonstrate new approaches to classroom practice and learning environments, the classroom was available to participants throughout the event. It provided an opportunity to explore innovative educational practices and technology-supported learning in a practical setting.
Learning, sharing and collaboration
Bringing together teachers, education experts, public institutions and sector representatives, the conference created a space for professional development, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Through teacher-led sessions, expert workshops, plenary discussions and opportunities for networking, participants exchanged experiences and explored approaches that could support innovation and improve English language teaching and learning in different educational contexts.
