Quality in English Medium Instruction Forum 2025
10–11 December 2025 | Samsun University
The Quality in English Medium Instruction (EMI) Forum, organised in partnership with Samsun University and The Open University, brings together policy leaders, academics, national and international experts to look back on the past decade of EMI in Türkiye and to shape the priorities for the years ahead. Building on the findings and recommendations of The State of English in Higher Education in Turkey report published in collaboration with the Council of Higher Education, the British Council and TEPAV, the forum addresses emerging developments such as artificial intelligence, employability skills and the growing demand for high-quality EMI programmes.
Aims and Objectives
- Review progress and challenges in EMI since 2015
- Discuss frameworks for improving quality and consistency
- Explore new approaches to teaching, assessment, and lecturer development
- Co-create a practical EMI Quality Toolkit for institutions
- Strengthen collaboration between Türkiye and the UK
Thematic Strands
1. Policy and Quality Systems
How national policies, quality assurance, and data can work together to support stronger EMI programmes.
2. Professional Development and Employability
The skills lecturers and students need, and how EMI can better support graduate employability and international opportunities.
3. Strategic Positioning and Future Challenges
The role of EMI in internationalisation and how institutions can respond to emerging issues such as AI.
