National Policy Dialogue on Innovation and Technology in English Language Education

The Directorate General for Innovation and Educational Technologies (YEĞİTEK) and the British Council will co-host the National Policy Dialogue on Innovation and Technology in English Language Education on 25–26 March 2026 in Ankara.

This two-day dialogue will bring together policymakers, institutional leaders, academics, teachers, and education experts to reflect on current English language education policies and digital learning practices within Türkiye’s national education framework. By facilitating collaboration among key stakeholders, the event aims to explore scalable and technology-enhanced approaches to English language teaching.

The initiative aligns with national priorities for the ethical and inclusive use of artificial intelligence in education, including its application in curriculum development, digital content production, evaluation and assessment, and sustainable professional development for teachers. By integrating these strategic priorities, the dialogue seeks to contribute meaningfully to the wider digital transformation of the national education system through an approach that is both innovative and human-centred.

The programme will feature high-level sessions led by distinguished national and international experts in educational technology and pedagogy, including:

  • Mustafa Canlı, Director General for Innovation and Educational Technologies at the Ministry of National Education
  • Mutlu Çukurova, Professor of Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the University College London  Institute of Education
  • Adam Edmett, Head of EdTech Innovation at the British Council.

The dialogue aims to translate national objectives into coordinated action by identifying clear and achievable next steps in technology-enabled teaching, digital literacy, and sustainable professional development for teachers. Participants will discuss best practices for using artificial intelligence and digital technologies in English language education and draft policy recommendations that can serve as reference points for future scaling.

Ultimately, the dialogue will clarify areas for continued collaboration and identify concrete next steps for technology-enabled teaching and digital literacy within the national English language teaching framework.
