What is Shakespeare Lives?

Shakespeare Lives is a global programme of events and activities celebrating the world's most popular playwright's work on the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016. The programme will include a host of events, including innovative theatre and dance performances, film screenings, globally sourced art exhibitions, and educational resources for English language learners.

How can I get involved?

A major highlight will be a mass participation project inviting people worldwide to respond creatively to scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, culminating in a crowd-sourced digital reimagining of Shakespeare’s works.

Play your Part

We are using the power of Shakespeare’s anniversary year to give real help to children in some of the world’s poorest communities.

• Every child deserves an education. It is a direct route out of poverty. But too many children are missing out: 250 million children around the world can’t read or write.

• Together we want to ensure children worldwide, no matter who they are, or where they live, get the education they deserve.

Will you support our campaign on social media by video sharing your favourite Shakespeare moment on Twitter/Facebook and pledge your support for Shakespeare Lives? It will only take a few minutes.

Please record a 30 second landscape video with your phone’s camera, using the following script as a guide:

I’m insert name from insert job title, town/country. My favourite Shakespeare moment is insert quote/scene/speech/performance/memory because it represents/reminds me of/makes me feel, etc.

See a sample video below.

The campaign kicks off on January 5th 2016 and you can post your video on Twitter/Facebook/Weibo, along with the following Tweet/post starting from 5 January onwards.
