Find out more about the event.
Since the publication of the British Council report titled ‘The State of English in Higher Education in Turkey’ in 2015, the debate on how to increase the quality of English education in higher education institutions has intensified. As English is pivotal in students’ success at English medium instruction (EMI) universities, English language programs are under continuous scrutiny by various stakeholders including parents and university administrations.
Quality management (QM) procedures have been in place in many sectors, yet many questions and concerns exist in the field of language education. QM initiatives range from micro-level ones existing within individual institutions such as program evaluations to macro-level national and international initiatives. In Turkey, although national initiatives are in the planning, as a result of the increasing demands in quality assurance, there has been a shift towards international accreditation bodies. However, many questions remain open to discussion.
This conference will mainly focus on the issues on quality management in ELT including the current practices and the future of quality in EAP and ESP. The keynotes will deeply analyse the following topics: dynamic indicators of quality in ESP, glocalization of quality (policies and standards), paradigm shifts in quality in EAP.
Ayşen Güven, Director Education of the British Council in Turkey, will be the plenary speaker at the conference.
The conference aims to bring together the professionals in the field such as teachers for English, quality assurance experts and the directors of school of foreign languages.
