Looking Back and Forward: Bridging Pre-Service and In-Service Teacher Education Programs in English Language Teaching
Hacettepe University and British Council are hosting their second joint symposium on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for ELT professionals involved in the delivery of university Preparatory Programmes. The event will take place at Hacettepe University, Ankara (Beytepe Campus).
The theme of this year’s symposium will be: Looking Back and Forward: Bridging Pre-Service and In-Service Teacher Education Programs in English Language Teaching.
During the event we will also launch the CPD booklet titled “Professional Development for English language Teachers: Perspectives from Higher Education in Turkey” - a collection of good practices presented at the previous symposium in January 2014.
This symposium aims to;
- discuss the link between PRESETT and INSETT programs within the specific context of Turkish School of Foreign Language Preparatory Year Programmes and Departments of English Language Teaching at Turkish Universities,
- suggest possible routes to establishing a bridge between PRESETT and INSETT programs,
- provide a forum for key decision makers to learn about and share possible areas of collaboration,
- discuss models for strenghtening the practical aspects of PRESETT programs while supporting INSETT programs with more research and theory.
The event is aimed at the following decision-makers:
- Directors of Schools of Foreign Languages.
- Deans of Faculty/ Deputy Rectors (where appropriate).
- Representatives from School of Foreign Languages CPD Units (or similar name for staff tasked with the professional development of teachers in the department).
- Higher Education Council /Ministry of National Education representatives.
- Representatives from Foreign Language Teacher Education Departments.
We aim to come up with recommendations and suggestions for future policy dialogues/CPD initiatives to bridge the two major CPD initiatives for English Language Professionals in Turkey.
