EU – Turkey Relations: After the Start of Negotiations

The British Council, Centre for European Reform (CER) and Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) are jointly organising a high-level, invitation-only conference on Turkish EU accession in Istanbul on 14 and 15 October 2005.The Chatham House Rule will be applied during the Conference.

This event follows last year’s highly acclaimed conference, which brought together Ali Babacan, Adam Ingram, Lord Wallace, Lord Hannay, Kemal Dervis, Pavel Telicka, Murat Mercan, Dominique Moisi, Joachim Bitterlich, Joost Lagendijk MEP and many others to discuss the politics of Turkish accession.

This year’s event will be opened by H.E. Abdullah Gül, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey; Martti Ahtisaari, Former President of Finland and Chairman of the Independent Commission on Turkey; and the Rt Hon Geoff Hoon MP, Lord Privy Seal, Leader of the House of Commons, and the Former Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom.
