BOSPHORUS CONFERENCE DEBATES THE NEW MOMENTUM IN EU-TURKEY RELATIONS

Celebrating its sixth year in 2009, the British Council’s annual Bosphorus Conference once again brought together senior politicians, diplomats, academicians and the leading minds behind influential think tanks in both Turkey and Europe. Heated debates were the order of the day as high-level guests discussed the new momentum in EU-Turkey relations, with focus being on the urgent need for a change in perception, a focus on integration and the need to speak with a single voice.

DARWIN NOW EXHIBITION TRAVELS TO IZMIR

 The Darwin Now exhibition, part of the British Council’s international activities to commemorate the bicentenary of one of the United Kingdom’s most famous scientists, has opened Izmir. Enthusiasts of science and history will have the opportunity to view the exhibition in the Aegean city throughout November. ‘While Darwin’s works still continue to influence biology and other branches of science, his books offer us a different perspective on some of the more important questions we face today in the 21st century’ said Izmir Konak Mayor Hakan Tartan at the official opening of the exhibition.

PRESTIGIOUS HR AWARD GOES TO BRITISH COUNCIL TURKEY

Sibel Çelebi Bostanci, British Council Turkey and Black Sea Human Resources Manager, has received recognition of her labours with the winning of the PERYON Human Resources Award in the category of Recruitment. PERYON (Turkish Association for People Management) is the first and foremost non-governmental organisation devoted to people management in Turkey.

YOUNG LEADERS TO ‘NAVIGATE’ BETWEEN CULTURES

The British Council has launched a new project aimed at developing an international network of young people to act as ‘Intercultural Navigators’. Launched following a recent study among young people that indicated growing concerns related to intercultural issues, the project will inspire young people from many different cultures to come together for discussion, says Governance and Society Projects Coordinator Ozan Dinçer
