 Our Skills@Work programme continues to support skills development in vocational education, with a recent spotlight on catering. In a recent workshop, representatives from high schools, catering companies and the Ministry of National Education came together to discuss new partnerships and projects.

 The British Council partners with Mikado Consulting to support a unique web portal for the sharing of experience and information. ‘Gelecek Daha Net’, or ‘The Future is Brighter’ in English, connects universities, civil society and the private sector to help confused young people to make the right career choices.

 ETTO (English Teacher Training Online), the largest teacher training project carried out to date by the British Council and the Ministry of National Education, kicks off in Aksaray, with 33 teachers from 11 cities receiving training from the British Council.

 Director Danny Boyle’s surprise global hit ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and David Fincher’s ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ lead the British Academy Film Awards nominations with 11 each; while Kate Winslet has received two Best Actress nominations for her parts in ‘Revolutionary Road’ and ‘The Reader.’

Gaye was in Manchester, London and Edinburgh for Christmas and the New Year, and returned to Turkey with much to say about travelling in the UK, some ‘what not to dos’ for tourists, and the pain of not having enough time to taste each and every beer.

Our series of International Young Creative Entrepreneur awards continues, with the launch of International Young Publishing Entrepreneur of the Year (IYPE) competition. Apply for our IYPE competition if you are working in the publishing sector, and define yourself as entrepreneurial and a potential future leader. The finalists will visit the UK for a ten-day industry tour.
