FAMELAB TO DISCOVER SCIENCE STARS
Are you interested in becoming the “New Face of Science”? FameLab is inviting you to present a scientific topic of your choice in front of a general audience, similar to TV programmes like Pop Star and Professional.  The auditions will take place on 19 and 20 February in Middle East Technical Unversity, Ankara, and the heats will be televised live on 28 February and 21 March on the national TV channel Kanal D.

A SEMINAR FOR MEDIA PROFESSIONALS ON REPRESENTING CHILDREN
British Council began its series of seminars for the Turkish media to discuss issues around the representation of less advantaged groups. The first of the series of National Seminars was on ‘Representation of children in the media’ and was held on 20 January in Istanbul. The seminar hosted Paul Smith, consultant to BBC Editorial Policy department, and was moderated by Yavuz Baydar from Sabah daily.

APPLICATIONS FOR JEAN MONNET SCHOLARSHIPS BEGIN
The application period for the European Commission funded Jean Monnet Scholarship for academic year 2007-2008 has started. The deadline for applications is 19 March. Jean Monnet Scholarship grants provide an opportunity for Turkish young professionals in the public and private sector and university students to study for up to one year at postgraduate level in one of the Member States of the European Union.
EDUCATION UK AGENTS TO RECEIVE CERTIFICATES
The autumn session of Education UK’s online course, Promoting Education and Training was completed on 24 November. An award ceremony will be held in 16 February, where the agents will be presented with their certificates.

LUCKY EXAMINATION CANDIDATES WIN PLAYSTATIONS
British Council Examination Services’ joint campaign with Sony ended with an ceremony at which 14 students each received a Sony PlayStation 2. The campaign was initiated to increase the number of schools enabling their students to take internationally-recognised Young Learners exams.

THE QUEEN’ LEADS BAFTAS WITH TEN NOMINATIONS

British royal drama “The Queen” is the leading film at this year’s Orange British Academy of Film and Television Arts(BAFTA) Film Awards, with ten nominations. Dame Helen Mirren is nominated for Best Actress with her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II, while Stephen Frears received a nomination for Best Director.
