SUMMER SCHOOL FOR THE POLICE

A two-week training course in the coastal city of Antalya brought together 16 teachers from the Police Academy and vocational colleges (as well as an international participant from Yemen’s Central Security Forces), as part of our Peacekeeping English Project, PEP Turkey. The training on communicative methodology using English Law Enforcement materials in a peer teaching environment was run by two experienced trainers from Romania and Macedonia.

TRANSPARENT TOASTER FROM A YOUNG TURKISH ENTREPRENEUR

Osman Can Özcanli, the winner of the Turkish heat of the British Council’s International Young Design Entrepreneur Competition, impressed a jury that included influential international designer Ron Arad with his transparent toaster. In the next stage of the competition Osman will travel to the UK to compete with finalists from nine other countries.

SECOND ROUND OF SCIENCE STARS WITH FAMELAB

Join our FameLab competition to become the new faces of Science, and develop your ideas and presentation skills for a non-scientific audience. FameLab, an international competition to find the best new talent in science communication, is similar to TV programmes such as Pop Idol and Mega Star. TRAINING STAGE OF EUROSKILLS PROJECT LAUNCHED

The training stage of our Euroskills project was launched with an official reception in the residence of the British Ambassador on 11 September, with the participation of the General Secretary of the Secretariat General for EU Affairs (EUSG) Ambassador Oguz Demiralp and Deputy Director of the UK Cabinet Office’s European Policy Directorate Neil McMillan.

OLIMPIARTS: challenging stereotypes while bringing YOUNG PEOPLE together

The Youth Action through Sports and Culture project continues to engage young people from Turkey to empower them in managing and operating transnational projects built on Olympic ideals. Last year, the project asked young people in 10 Southeast European countries to identify an issue they wanted to resolve in their community.


NEW ONLINE COURSE FOR EDUCATION UK AGENTS

British Council will run the online certificate course, ‘Education UK Certificate for Agents.’ This is a qualification designed for agents by the British Council to increase their capacity in order to promote the UK as a study destination.

A WORKSHOP ON WRITING REFERENCES AND APPLICATIONS

British Council will collaborate with UCAS, the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges, for a workshop in Istanbul on 26 September.


ISTANBUL BIENNIAL WELCOMES BRITISH ARTISTS

As the 10th International Istanbul Biennial is approaching, four British artists are preparing to showcase their work in September. Over 150 projects by more than 100 artists and artist groups from 35 different countries will be launched across the city during the Biennial, running between 8 September and 4 November. The British artists whose work will be featured in the Biennial are Tomoko Yoneda, Jonathan Barnbrook, Justin Bennett and Ian Kiaer.

FROZEN WAVES TO BRIGHTEN ISTANBUL NIGHTS

British Council will be part of this year’s Biennial with Frozen Waves, a continuous programme of media work on screen in one of Istanbul’s busiest squares overlooking the Golden Horn from 6 September. New works by artists Babak Ghazi, Mustafa Hulusi, Mark Titchner and Eva Weinmayr from the UK and Paul Snowden from Germany will be broadcasted via publicly-sited screens in Istanbul and the UK.
