Description:

The title of the 9th International Istanbul Biennial, curated by Charles Esche and Vasif Kortun, is "Istanbul", referring both to the real urban location and the imaginative charge that this city represents for the world. "Istanbul" as a metaphor, as a prediction, as a lived reality, and an inspiration has many stories to tell and the Biennial will attempt to tap directly into this rich history and possibility. British artists participating at the Biennial are video and installation artist Cerith Wyn Evans, photography and installation artist Pavel Büchler, photography and installation artist Phil Collins and video artist Smadar Dreyfuss.

The venues for the Istanbul International Biennial are Deniz Palas Apartments in Sishane, Antrepo No: 5 in Findikli, Kavala Building in Tophane, Bilsar Building in Sishane, Garanti Building on Bankalar Caddesi and Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center in Beyoglu.
