Inflamed Poetics: Doing Philosophy in the Age of Technology

Using the old Nietzchean style of aphoristic rhetoric, Inflamed Poetics exposes three main predicaments of our ‘post’ postmodern times – that of memory, imagination, and terrorism.  The paper slips in and around questions of pluralised time, ethics, aesthetics, speed, and recursive mathematics, linking the concerns of scholars as diverse as Einstein, Gödel, Heidegger, with the sensuous, ‘dirty logics’ of Wittgenstein, Deleuze & Guattari. It takes aim at the status quo with little narratives, each themselves a re-marking of the more fetid aspects of dead philosophy sutured with and amongst pop songs, pop psychology; indeed, pop culture.   Amongst other things, it sets the stage for the production of a wholly different set of logics, aesthetics and ethics, we might wish to call ‘poetics’, though quite a long way away from Aristotle and his disciples.

Professor Johnny Golding (Sue Golding/johnny de philo) is Chair/Professor of Philosophy in Visual Arts & Communication Technologies and Programme Director for the post-graduate MA/Ph.d. in Media Arts at Greenwich University, London.
