Promoting Active Citizenship Among University Students Project
Start Date: 11/03/2006 | End Date: 12/03/2006
Category: Governance&Society
City: ANKARA
Venue: Ankara
Contact: seda.mumcu@britishcouncil.org.tr, cagri.oner@britishcouncil.org.tr
Partners: Hacettepe University
Description:

We are trying to promote active citizenship among a group of Hacettepe University students through a model called Public Achievement.  Public Achievement is a model that recognises the creative capacity of individuals of all ages to actively participate in the civic life of their communities and in the building of a more just, peaceful, democratic and pluralist society. This is done by supporting small groups of young people - and adult volunteer `coaches` who work with them - in addressing issues that are important and around which they design, carry out and evaluate their own projects. In the process, they learn skills of active citizenship and democracy.

In this weekend`s activity we will bring two coaches from Northern Ireland to share their experiences with their counterparts here in Turkey. We assume the coaches from both countries will learn from each others` experiences and devise new aproaches to be used in their public achievement work. We also assume there will be cooperative work in the future.
