Description:

The Soundscape UK series, organised in collaboration with Pozitif, brings together two talented bands, Pest of London-based Ninja Tune and Orient Expressions of Istanbul-based Doublemoon, for a meeting of British punk-jazz vs. Turkish ethno-electronic music.  The Soundscape UK series up to now has included meetings of Susheela Raman and Natacha Atlas with Turkish musicians such as Göksel Baktagir and Izzet Kizil, the Baba Zula & Mad Professor DJ/Production project and the meeting between TransGlobal Underground and Mercan Dede. 

The concert will begin at 23:00. Tickets are on sale at Biletix (27,5 YTL) and at the door (25 YTL)

Description: The 4th edition of the British Short Film Days will take place between 18 February – 5 April 2005 and will travel to 8 cities in Turkey.  Beside film packages on music and animation from the best young film-makers in the UK , this year there will also be a section dedicated to young film-makers from Turkey and various European countries.  The event will include screenings, workshops and talks with film-makers.  A selection of these films will also be shown in the Istanbul Short Film Days, between 6 – 13 April 2005.

Description:

Avrupa Kültür Derneği (European Cultural Association), Austrian Cultural Forum, British Council, French Cultural Institute, Goethe Institut and The Consulate General of The Netherlands are launching a Cultural Management Programme, with the support and contribution of several Turkish experts and institutions as well as the Canadian Embassy. The programme will take place between February and May 2005 in Istanbul.

The objective of this programme is to create a platform of young Turkish cultural managers and give them the necessary tools to build their own perspectives on the needs of their own environment at micro and macro levels, find alternative solutions and to improve the cultural relations between Turkey and Europe.

Zaha Hadid is an architect who consistently pushes the boundaries of architecture and urban design. Her work experiments with new spatial concepts intensifying existing urban landscapes in the pursuit of a visionary aesthetic that encompasses all fields of design, ranging from urban scale to products, interiors and furniture.  An exhibition of work by Zaha Hadid is open at Garanti Galery until 5 February. The conference will be at 18.00.

Description: The BBC World Service and British Council International Radio Playwriting Competition 2005 has been launched.  The winner will win a trip to London to participate in producing their play for broadcast on BBC World Service. The competition is open to anyone resident outside the UK, whether English is their first or second language. Description:

For the first British Council collaboration with the Istanbul Residency Program (IRP) at Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, artist Phil Collins has been invited to spend a 3 month residency period in Istanbul starting January 2005. Phil Collins produces video and photographic work about the representation of different cultures and in particular the effects of socio-political conflict on individuals. Although from the UK, his work is produced following time spent in different cities and situations, such as Belfast, Belgrade and Baghdad. During his stay at IRP Phil Collins will produce a new work specifically for his participation in the 9th International Istanbul Biennial, which opens September `05 and is being curated by Charles Esche and Vasif Kortun. Collins` residency has also been organized to coincide with `part 3` of Platform`s Normalization program in which he has been invited to exhibit a past work.
